Josh Itzkowitz Shifrinson is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science and an affiliate of the MIT Security Studies Program. His dissertation, entitled "Life on the Downward Slope: Explaining State Decisions to Support or Exploit Declining Great Powers," examines the consequences of relative decline for modern great powers. Additional research interests include the use of force, military innovation, and energy security. His work has appeared in International Security, The Journal of Political and Military Sociology, and other sources, and has been supported by the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and MIT Center for International Studies. Josh is a 2006 graduate of Brandeis University and has worked with the Rand Corporation and Crown Center for Middle East Studies.
